Child Rehabilitation

Right to Education for all

According to national studies in 2011 (done through analysis of National Family Health Survey-3) the number of orphans in India was at that time 20 million and increasing. This is about 4% of total population. Also according to the latest official reports about 14 million children work under conditions of slavery. Unofficial sources put that number to 30 million. As you can imagine large numbers of the uncared for orphans join this huge bandwagon of child slaves. Most of them are from poor eastern states like West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, as the report says. Slave labour includes bonded labour, sex trafficking, child labour in organized and unorganized industry, domestic help and other forms. This is, at the least, a very disquieting statistics.

We have a duty, from the very point of self interest, to support these unfortunate children to break the bondage of poverty and slavery and to bring them to a point, through care, love and education where they can live a wholesome life of their own with jobs and can be assets to our nation. Otherwise they will drag us down through crime, poverty and working destructively and rebelliously harming our own peace and security.

The Union budget expenditure for health and family welfare is a paltry 1.92% (Rs.38,000 crore)* of the budget in the year 2016 and even then it is mismanaged and misused. So individuals and private institutions have a big responsibility to come up to bear the burden to ameliorate the condition of these unfortunate children.

As such, Rescue and Relief Foundation has started a project which takes care of the problem of orphans as a whole with a very methodical approach. It has a plan to reach these orphans at grass root levels, give them home and food and provide an initial course for their lost schooling. After that, the project will provide for their education which will ultimately enable them to get jobs and live as honourable citizens of India.

CHILD WELFARE CENTRE, DURGAPUR, WB

Rescue and Relief Foundation has come forward to take 92 of these children’s lives to light with a new project which takes care of a children’s welfare center at Durgapur. The center provides English medium school education to 40 children from kindergarten to class-4. Rest of the children are provided informal education which opens the door for future. We hope you will all give a helping hand to carry forward this project to educate children who are impoverished and subjected to child labour.

YOUTH REHABILITATION, Belgharia, Kolkata

Education is the foundation upon which we build our future. - Christine Gregoire

Keeping this view in mind, Rescue and Relief Foundation has taken an initiative to help poor but meritorious students through “Vivek- Uday Students’ Welfare Society” located in Belgharia.

Now, this might seem to you a little bit surprising that this Foundation works to rehabilitate the rescued girls from trafficking and support old age homes and all of a sudden, we have started helping these students. But for us, it is an awakening call. We have understood that without the light of education, we can’t simply think of uprooting the evils of the society.

In our society, we stand in a place where education is the most needful for everyone. Education must be provided to everybody. We believe that if our today is nurtured well, our future would be fruitful. It is the strongest tool that anyone can use at their disposal to bring about a positive and impactful change in the society.

“Vivek- Uday Students’ Welfare Society” is one such pillar that has been established by the students who believe that the light of education must never be stopped from spreading as just as we do. This is one of our many missions to change the society. We call it, “ The Merit Sponsorship Program” to help those who want to study further but are not able to do so because of their remote location. Through this program, we help these students with Fooding and Lodging at a facility in Belgharia. Currently, approx. 20 students are being benefited. But we aim to expand this facility in near future and help more such students who really have the potential to be successful in the future.

Come, lets help to build a bright future. For everyone.
